Terms of Use
Jiyama is designed to keep mathematics accessible to individual learners and educators while supporting sustainable organizational use.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use govern access to and use of Jiyama's website, applications, educational activities, and related materials (collectively, "Jiyama"). By accessing or using Jiyama, you agree to these terms. If you are using Jiyama on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to act for that organization.
2. Free individual and educator use
Jiyama may be used at no charge by individuals for personal and noncommercial educational purposes. Individual educators may also use Jiyama at no charge with the students they personally teach, including in their own classes, tutoring, assignments, demonstrations, and other ordinary instructional activities.
Free access does not transfer ownership of Jiyama's software, content, design, branding, or other intellectual property and does not grant permission to resell, redistribute, reproduce, or host Jiyama as a separate service.
3. Organizational use and licensing
An organizational license is required when Jiyama is adopted, deployed, distributed, integrated, managed, or provided for use by a school, school district, department, college or university, tutoring organization, nonprofit organization, company, or other institution as an organizational resource or service.
Individual educator use remains free. A teacher does not need an organizational license merely because they work for a school or district. Licensing is intended for institution-level or centrally managed use rather than ordinary use chosen independently by an individual educator.
Examples of organizational use may include institution-wide or department-wide adoption, centrally managed deployment, embedding Jiyama into another product or platform, distributing Jiyama as part of an organization's own service, or otherwise making Jiyama available under an organization-led program.
For organizational licensing or questions about whether a planned use requires a license, contact contact@jiyama.com.
4. Voluntary support payments
Jiyama may offer a way for users to make voluntary support payments or tips. A support payment does not purchase an organizational license, ownership rights, special access, or any other rights unless Jiyama expressly agrees otherwise in writing. Unless expressly stated otherwise, support payments are not represented as charitable or tax-deductible contributions.
5. Permission to use Jiyama
Subject to these terms, Jiyama grants eligible users a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable permission to access and use Jiyama for the purposes described above. Any rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved.
6. Uses that are not permitted
Unless Jiyama gives written permission, you may not:
- sell, sublicense, rent, or commercially redistribute Jiyama;
- copy or host substantial portions of Jiyama as a competing or substitute service;
- remove or alter copyright, trademark, attribution, or other proprietary notices;
- use Jiyama's name, logos, or branding in a way that suggests sponsorship or endorsement;
- circumvent security, access controls, or technical restrictions; or
- reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code except to the extent such a restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
7. Intellectual property
Jiyama and its software, visual designs, text, graphics, educational materials, logos, trademarks, and other original content are owned by Jiyama or their respective rights holders and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Making Jiyama available without charge for certain uses does not place Jiyama or its content in the public domain and does not make the software open source unless a separate license expressly says otherwise.
8. Educational use and accuracy
Jiyama is an educational resource. While care is taken in developing its mathematical content and interactive features, Jiyama does not guarantee that every result, explanation, activity, or feature will always be complete or error-free. Educators remain responsible for deciding how Jiyama fits their instructional goals and needs.
9. Availability and changes
Jiyama may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features or content from time to time. These terms may also be updated. When the terms are materially revised, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
10. Third-party services and links
Jiyama may link to or use services provided by third parties, including hosting, security, payment, and privacy-focused analytics services. Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. Jiyama is not responsible for third-party websites, services, or content that it does not control. Information about Jiyama's use of service providers, Cloudflare Web Analytics, and local browser storage is available in the Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jiyama is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. Nothing in these terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Jiyama and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use Jiyama. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot legally be limited or excluded.
13. Termination of permission
Jiyama may suspend or terminate permission to use the service when these terms are materially violated, subject to applicable law. Sections concerning intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, and other provisions that by their nature should survive will continue to apply after termination.
14. Contact
